Genioplasty with implant (chin prosthesis)

description

Genioplasty with implant (chin prosthesis)

The type of prosthesis varies depending on the aspect of the chin and the correction to apply: small central prosthesis or prosthesis with lateral wings to enlarge a too narrow chin.

Most of the prosthesis are composed of hard silicone and are well tolerated.

Before the procedure

The forward move expected by the patient is established during a consultation. A computer simulation may be useful.

Most of the time, the incision is hidden in the mouth (invisible) or very discrete under the chin.

The procedure

A tailor-made cavity is created in contact with the mandibular bone without detaching the mentalis muscles. The cavity matches the exact dimensions of the implant. Most of the time, the operation is carried out under general anaesthesia if the patient wishes so. The procedure lasts between 30 minutes and 1 hour depending on the type of implant and is carried out in an ambulatory facility.

After the procedure

A dressing securement system will be kept during 5 days to avoid displacement of the implant in the area of the chin. If the scar is placed in the mouth, food must be mixed during 48 hours and antiseptic mouth washes are prescribed during 5 days. You will be asked to avoid hot food during 48 hours after surgery. The result of the operation is immediate. The implant is invisible: it is hidden by the thickness of the muscles and of the fat of the chin.
