Genioplasty for galoche chin (protruding chin)

description

The operations for receding chin and protruding chin are different.

Genioplasty for galoche chin (protruding chin)

Two procedures are possible:

  • Milling: the too forward lower edge of the chin is drilled. It is a simple technique which gives immediate and excellent results.
  • Sliding genioplasty by osteotomy: the procedure consists in breaking the excess bone and re-attaching the anterior part of the chin to preserve harmonious contours. This technique is heavier and complications such as asymmetry are more common than with milling. The scars are hidden in the mouth. You will be asked to wear a shaping bandage during 5 to 6 days. Discomfort can appear during 2 to 3 weeks after surgery. The final result can be appreciated between 2 and 3 months after the operation, once the swelling has disappeared.
